Ripple Effects

Newspaper Cover & Data Visualization / 2025

During my time as Data Designer at The Independent Florida Alligator, I contributed to our special edition on the anniverary of Trump’s 2024 election win. The issue, Ripple Effects, explored how the administration’s policies have trickled down to the local level.

Front Cover

As well as multiple data graphics, I was asked to create a cover that encapsulated Gainesville's sentiments from the presidency's first year. Coupling photography from the local No Kings protest with an imposing angle of the Washington Monument, I visually implied the unrest lying beneath the surface of Gainesville's facade.

Data Visualizations

I worked with editors to explore the data behind their stories, creating interactive graphics that gave readers context or revealed additional angles of the narrative. Graphics used layout, color, and typography to create a strong sense of informational hierarchy, allowing viewers to quickly glean necessary information while retaining the option to dive deeper into the data if it interests them.

The front-page cover I created for the special edition.
