Keepintouch

Email Newsletter / 2026

I organized and designed a collaborative weekly email newsletter for my graduating class to stay in touch after graduation.

Despite Distance

The newsletter's brand identity was defined by the tagline, "Despite distance," as well as early internet aesthetics. Low-res timelapse GIFs of  clouds frame bright, pixellated headers, reflecting the newsletter's commitment to connection across both time and changing skies. A limited color palette emphasizes the sections of motion, creating a subtle digital environment as the viewer reads.

What to Include?

While each newsletter would be centered around a written piece by an alumni, this left no place for an dialogue between readers. Drawing on my experience at Gainesville's newspaper, I decided to include two additional sections: reader Q&A and other alumni news. These could be written by alumni any week, not just when they had chosen to write the main newsletter. These sections encouraged a sense of Keepintouch as an active conversation between us rather than a static document.

Organization & Coding

Finally, I had to integrate all of the sections into HTML and ensure it displayed properly across the main email clients. I was able to use a few tricks to bypass the inverted colors of dark modes and inject the code directly into Gmail, meaning I didn't have to use any third-party newsletter services.
